Resident supports Gottman

Editor:
I would like to write this letter about Mayor Ricky Gottman. I have known Ricky for several years.
When I served as chairman of the county board, the governor decided to close the Vandalia Correctional Center. The day he announced it, Ricky called a meeting in which he had several leaders of other communities and our state senator and reps included. He started a long effort to help keep VCC open. Ricky made numerous trips to Springfield, along with many of our community, to do everything possible to keep it open. I know how he works, as we were in a meeting with then Gov. Rod Blagojevich and some of his cronies. Ricky didn’t back down to any of his efforts. Without Ricky, we wouldn’t have the prison.
Vandalia’s Gallatin Street is one of the most attractive areas of any city in the area. His efforts, along with others, helped this to happen.
Ricky made every effort to keep the Orgill Warehouse in Vandalia. If only the state of Illinois would have done for them what Missouri did, I am sure they would have given a lot more consideration to staying.
When we have a mayor that is doing the job that he is doing, I believe we should keep him doing the job.
