Pinnacle growth good news for St. Elmo, region

-A A +A

Our Opinion

By Rich Bauer, Managing Editor

Given our state’s current climate, it’s almost impossible for any community in Illinois – especially smaller ones – to land a sizeable number of manufacturing jobs. But St. Elmo has done just that.
That community, working with state and county officials, and touting the ethic of its current work force, has encouraged Pinnacle Foods to more than double the number of employees at its St. Elmo facility.
A celebration planned for next Wednesday will serve as the startup of Wish-Bone salad dressings production at Pinnacle’s St. Elmo plant. By the end of July, the number of employees at the St. Elmo plant will increase from about 85 to about 175.
That’s good news for St. Elmo, Fayette County and this entire area, as residents come from various places to work at Pinnacle Foods in that community.
Pinnacle’s decision to invest more than $50 million in the St. Elmo facility shows that the company is well pleased with what this area has to offer.
We applaud St. Elmo officials, as well as those at the county and state levels, for their efforts, which prove that our state – despite all of the factors that work against us – can still serve as a home to significant manufacturing operations.
