Paying Tribute

Emergency responders from throughout the region last Friday paid tribute to Duane Guffey, the Effingham County coroner who died on Feb. 15. In addition to his service as the county coroner, Guffey had been a volunteer firefighter, emergency medical technician and part-time police officer for Effingham. The Vandalia Volunteer Fire Department and the Effingham Fire Department used their aerial apparatus to hang a large American flag on the road leading to Ramsey Cemetery, where Guffey was buried.
