Patoka, St. Elmo holding Labor Day festivals

Two area communities will be celebrating the end of summer this weekend.
The Patoka Fall Festival is a three-day celebration that kicks off on Friday evening, and St. Elmo’s Labor Day Celebration gets under way on Sunday evening.
Patoka  
The Fall Festival begins at 6 p.m. with carnival rides, mechanical bull rides, a catch a pig contest and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
At 7 p.m., Patoka resident Jamie Nattier and others will provide musical entertainment.
The celebration resumes on Saturday with a parade at 11 a.m. Donna Snider is this year’s parade marshal.
After the parade, the celebration moves to the park with a food buffet and food vendors, homemade pie, carnival rides, 4-on-4 sand volleyball, pony rides, bingo and a cake walk.
Studio 50 Gym and Dance students will perform at 1 p.m., and a pedal pull is set for 2 p.m.
Music entertainment begins at 4:30 p.m., and a demolition derby is at 7 p.m.
Sunday’s schedule includes a community church service at 10:30 a.m. at the park, followed by carnival rides.
St. Elmo  
The Labor Day celebration begins at 6 p.m. on Sunday with a performance by “Water to Wine” at St. Elmo Christian Church.
A pancake breakfast from 6-9:30 a.m. kicks off the Monday activities, and the annual Labor Day parade begins at 10:30 a.m. from the high school.
The schedule also includes:
• Noon-6 p.m. – Carnival games and inflatables.
• 12:30 p.m. – Parade winners announced at Fifth and Main streets.
• 1-2:30 p.m. – Non-beauty competitons, hairy leg contest.
• 1-5 p.m. – Bingo at Fifth and Main streets.
• 3 p.m. – Watermelon-eating and seed-spitting at Fourth and Main streets.
• 3-5 p.m. – Children’s carnival and tournaments.
• 5:30 p.m. – St. Elmo Lions’ cake walk.
• 6:15 p.m. – Announcement of St. Elmo’s Citizen of the Year.
• 6:30-9:30 p.m. – “St. Elmo’s Got Talent.”
• 8 p.m. – St. Elmo Business Association drawing.
