Scrapbooking at OUR PLACE
 
Scrapbooking will be held at OUR PLACE Youth Center, 507 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. this Friday. The scrapbooking is open to everyone ages 8 to adult.

Inaugural Fun Fest is Saturday

The inaugural “Join Our Rage Against Neurofibromatosis Fun Fest” will be held from noon-6 p.m. at Gatch Lake.
The event will include kids’ games, bounce house, face-painting, silent auction, gun raffle and bake sale as well as food, drinks and music.
Cow patty bingo will be played from 3-5 p.m., with 250 tickets being sold and $1,000 going to the winner.
All proceeds from the event will go to finding a cure for neurofibromatosis. It is being sponsored by Family and Friends of J.O.R.D.A.N./Team Little Buddies.


Moreland benefit is Saturday

A benefit for Connie Crittenden Moreland will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Home on West St. Louis Avenue in Vandalia.
The benefit includes a chili supper from 3-7 p.m., with the cost being $6 for adults and $4 for children.
An auction starts at 7 p.m., and a 50/50 raffle will be held.

Evan Burns Memorial Ride is Saturday
“Draggo’s Ride,” being held in memory of Vandalia native Evan D. Burns, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, in Caruthersville, Mo.
Burns was serving as a police officer in Caruthersville when he was killed in the line of duty.
Registration for the ride is at 10 a.m. at Buckaroo’s Bar and Grill, located at 991 State Highway D in Caruthersville. The ride is sponsored by the Roughnecks Motorcycle Club.
The ride starts at 11 a.m. and will consist of approximately 100 miles through West Tennessee before a return to Caruthersville. A chili supper and auction will follow the ride.
Money raised will go to the trust fund that has been established for Burns’s 1-year-old son.

Mother of Dolors event is Sunday
The Mother of Dolors chicken dinner and fall festival will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. this Sunday at the church's parish center, 705 W. St. Clair St., Vandalia.
The cost of the meal, which includes homemade noodles, is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 5-11, with children age 4 and under allowed to eat free of charge. Carry-outs will be available in the church basement; orders may be placed by calling 283-0751.
The event will include a country store and raffle.
