Scouting for Food bags to be picked up

 

Local Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts will again be participating in Scouting for Food this year.

This Saturday, Scouts will be picking up the Scouting for Food bags that they distributed last Saturday. Being accepted are non-perishable foods. Scouts will be picking up food between 9 a.m. and noon on Saturday.

 

Statehouse, museum events on Dec. 14

 

The Vandalia Statehouse and Fayette County Museum will be hosting their Christmas celebrations on Saturday, Dec. 14.

The annual Statehouse Christmas Open House will be held from 5-8 p.m.

The open house will include candlelight tours of the Statehouse, as well as music and refreshments provided by Friends of the Old State Capitol. As is tradition, the first 100 families to sign the register will receive a Christmas ornament.

The Fayette County Museum Holiday Open House runs from 4-6:30 p.m.

The open house at the museum, which is located north of the Statehouse at Kennedy Boulevard and Main Street, will include music performed on period instruments by Baroque Folk.

Copies of the Fayette County Museum Cookbook are expected to be available. The cookbooks are $15 each, with proceeds of the sale being used for improvements to the upper level of the museum.


Ugly Sweater Run set for Dec. 14

 

The Ugly Christmas Sweater 5K Run/Walk to benefit the backpack food program in Brownstown schools will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14.

Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. and a shotgun start is slated for 10:33 a.m.

The run begins in the Brownstown High School parking lot, and the entry fee is $35 per person.

Prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers, and for the ugliest Christmas sweater worn for the event.

The advance registration date has passed, but to find out about participating, call 427-3368.
