Pet supplies accepted for library fines through Aug. 19

In celebration of its summer reading program, “Paws to Read,” Evans Public Library will be accepting donations of pet supplies in place of fines or lost book charges.
The library will collect donations through Aug. 19. All items will be donated to Second Chance Animal Rescue.
For every item donated, $1 in fines or charges will be removed. New or gently used items accepted include blankets, rawhides, food bowls, treats, leashes and collars.

Prairie Days is next weekend

The 39th annual Prairie Days celebration in St. Peter will be held next Friday and Saturday.
The event kicks off with a fish, chicken and ribeye dinner at 5 p.m. on Friday. The Friday schedule also includes softball and sand volleyball tournaments, and music by "Crazy Horse" at 8 p.m.
The Saturday schedule includes a parade at 1 p.m., AirEvac display at 3:30 p.m., cake walk at 4 p.m., David Belcher's dove and serpent martial arts demonstration at 5 p.m., "3 River Roll" at 7:30 p.m., national anthem by Kyla Hall at 8 p.m. and music by "Bumpin' Uglies" at 8:30 p.m.

VVFD golf scramble is Aug. 29

The Vandalia Volunteer Fire Department will hold its second annual four-person golf scramble on Friday, Aug. 29, at Vandalia Country and Golf Club.
The cost is $200 per team, and lunch at 11 a.m. is followed by a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start.
