Lady Vandals still have perfect record

Vandalia senior RaeChelle Leiken started her season with just 20 kills through the first games, but she has turned her attack around and had another strong game last Thursday as the Lady Vandals remained undefeated after a 25-19, 17-25, 25-20 win at Southwestern.

Leiken led the team with 13 kills and has tallied 50 of them in the past four games, leading the team in the past three. She made just one hitting error on 34 attempts at Southwestern.

She added three service aces for Vandalia (8-0, 4-0 South Central Conference) and has at least one ace in every game but one this season.

Not far behind was senior Austyn Krueger, who had 10 kills, and junior Megan Godoyo added six kills and three aces.

Senior Shelby Foster also had three aces, to improve on her team-leading total of 21 for the season.

The Lady Vandals have gone three sets in their past four games, and in three of the four conference games on the season.

An easier win could be looming on Thursday, when Vandalia travels to Hillsboro to take on a rebuilding Lady Hilltoppers team, before Saturday’s Vandalia Tournament.

Next week, the Lady Vandals host Ramsey on Monday and travel to Litchfield on Tuesday.
