Lady Eagles win EIC softball championship

The St. Elmo High School softball team beat Mulberry Grove, 4-3, on Tuesday to win the Egyptian-Illini Conference regular-season championship.

"I asked the girls to simply play like they were playing for first, and they definitely stepped up to the challenge," said coach Tom Fedrigon.

The Lady Eagles scored four times in the third inning, led by an RBI double by senior Brooke Maxey and a two-run bunt single by sophomore Savannah Feezel.

Sophomore Samantha Austin picked up the win, striking out three over seven innings.
The Lady Aces scored in both the fourth and fifth innings, and had eight hits.
