KC hosting seminar about agro-terrorism

Kaskaskia College, in partnership with Louisiana State University, will offer to emergency services personnel (fire, police and EMS), county Extension agents, local and state public health officials, and individuals in the agriculture industry (including producers, processors and transporters) a day of free training relating to agro-terrorism.
The training will be held from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Lifelong Learning Center located on the main campus of Kaskaskia College in Centralia.
This awareness level course is designed to enhance community-wide preparedness and response to incidents involving animals, plants and food.
Participants are introduced to and learn a definition of agro-terrorism.
Once they have received an overview of the food supply infrastructure, participants learn the extent to which accidental, intentional and naturally occurring incidents can affect daily operations in the food and agriculture industry, as well as basic communication protocols they must be aware of in case they must report a suspected agro-terrorism incident.
This training is sponsored by the Homeland Security Agency and will only be offered in Southern Illinois once this year.
There is no fee for the class, but participants must register in advance, due to a limited number of workbooks and other information that will be distributed.
For registration or other information,  call Art Borum at 545-3401 or e-mail him at aborum@kaskaskia.edu.
