Beekeeping classes

The Kaskaskia College Community Education Department is offering a series of beekeeping classes at the Salem Education Center and Vandalia Campus.
Second in the series is honey production, which will teach students how to make the most of their hives. This course will cover honey and honeycomb production.
Later classes in this series will include raising queens for your hive, and keeping a healthy and productive colony.
Students may register for one or all of the classes. The cost per session is $20 for students under 60 years old; students over 60 may register free of charge.
The class at the Vandalia Campus will be held this Saturday, and the class in Salem will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5. Both sessions will be held from 8 a.m.-noon.
The registration number for the Salem class is COED 8033 SA02W, and for Vandalia, it is COED 8033 VA02W.

Third in the series is queen bee rearing, which will teach students how to properly raise and care for queen bees in their hives. Healthy queens are necessary to grow the population and maintain a productive and functioning hive.
This course will teach keepers how to properly rear a prolific, quality queen. Later classes in this series will include keeping a healthy and productive colony.  
Students may register for one or all of the classes. Cost per session is $20 for students under 60 years old; students over 60 may register free of charge.
The class at the Vandalia Campus will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, and the class in Salem will be held Saturday, March 5. Both sessions will be held from 8 a.m.-noon.

Intermediate quilting class

The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer an intermediate quilting course at the Vandalia Campus.
This class will be held on Wednesdays, Feb. 2, 9 and 16, from 6-9 p.m. The registration number is COED 5449 VA01E.
Intermediate quilting will continue to examine all of the necessary tools for hand and machine piecing of quilt blocks. Students will build on their knowledge of various quilting tools.
Participants will leave with all of the information needed each week to complete a final product.
Students will be provided a supply list on the first day of class. A portable sewing machine is required.
The cost for students under 60 is $40; students over 60 may register at no cost.

Space is limited, so early registration is encouraged. All students must pre-register.
