John P. Provinzano, 60, Highland

John Pietro Provinzano, 60, of Highland, formerly of Vandalia, departed this life on May 26, 2012, at 1:37 a.m., at his home, surrounded by loved ones.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland, with Deacon Ron Hesson of St. Paul’s Parish officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mattoon. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday, both at the funeral home. Memorials: Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Mr. Provizano was born on March 14, 1952, in Mattoon, the son of Vito “Vic” and Lucille Stein Provinzano. He married Deborah Bayley on Aug. 6, 1982.

John was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University and prior to his illness had been employed as a respiratory therapist and Director of Ancillary Services at Fayette County Hospital in Vandalia.

John remained a dedicated fan of the Chicago Cubs, regardless of the endless teasing he endured while living in Cardinals Country. He enjoyed traveling, music, golf, baseball and spending time with friends, children and grandchildren. John’s humor and kindness left an imprint on everyone he met, and he will be deeply missed by those whose lives were touched by him.

He is survived by his wife; children, Tony Provinzano of Highland, Brooke (Litton) Merritt and her husband Jamie of Mt. Vernon, Jason Ohley and his wife Julie of Mt. Vernon, and Alisa (Cunningham) Agee of Vandalia; parents; sisters, Marilyn Hulskotter of Indianapolis, Linda and her husband Rich Caldwell of Effingham, and Cathy and her husband Tom David of Mattoon; brother-in-law, Mike Hulskotter of Indianapolis;  grandchildren Austen, Levi, Lucas and Sam Ohley, Ethan Morence, Brianna, Ashley, Emma, Sophie, Abby and Delaney Meritt, Amber, Seth, and Jayda Brockett; great-grandchildren, Aubryn Ohley, Kynidee Hug and Georgia Brockett; and several beloved nieces and nephews and treasured friends.
