Heritage Poster

At Monday’s Vandalia City Council meeting, local tourism volunteer Mary Truitt presented to Mayor Rick Gottman and the city a poster created to represent the city as a federal heritage area. Truitt said the federal government created 49 heritage areas a decade ago, and the posters were created for the 10th anniversary of the heritage program. She said Vandalia is the only heritage area dedicated to a person (Abraham Lincoln). Posters for all heritage areas were on display when representatives of the areas were in Springfield recently, and that they were very popular, Truitt said. Accepting the poster, Gottman thanked Truitt “for all that she does to promote the city’s tourism. She goes all over the state to promote it.’
