City may consider changes to lake laws

By Rich Bauer, Managing Editor

A week after its lake committee voted to go with something other than what was recommended, the Vandalia City Council did the same thing.
Last week, after hearing from city Building Official Dan Barenfanger and Joe Withers about Withers violating city ordinance at the lake lot where he is building a home, the lake committee recommended that the council OK a $500 fine.
On Monday, the council voted to increase the amount of the fine to the maximum, $750, with Mayor Rick Gottman casting the tie-breaking vote.
