Jamie Kruenegel receives award
Jamie Kruenegel of Vandalia Community High School was recently presented the school's highest agricultural honor, the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award, sponsored by Monsanto.
Kruenegel, the daughter of David and Stacy Kruenegel, received the award for excellence in academics, leadership and agricultural work.
Her accomplishments include being the 2009 state runner-up in the GROWMARK essay contest, the 2009/2010 Star Chapter Greenhand, 2012 Star Chapter Agribusiness.
Todd Ehlers is Kruenegel's agricultural education instructor at VCHS.
This is the 65th anniversary of the DEKALB Agricultural Accomplishment Award. During those years, more than 168,000 high school seniors from across the nation have received the award. This year, more than 2,000 students were selected.

Bradley Braddock given scholarship
Bradley Braddock of Patoka is the recipient of the 2012 National Leader and Academic Scholarship from Water Street Solutions and Agriculture Future of America.
He will receive a $1,600 award to help finance his college education, and an additional $1,000 leader development award to be used to attend an AFA leadership conference in November.
Braddock was selected because of his strong academic achievement, volunteer work and leadership skills. His experiences in FFA and 4-H, coupled with his interest in agriculture, business and law, have led him to pursue those fields in college.
"I have chosen to study the legal field because I feel that attorneys with knowledge of agriculture are truly needed in today's world," Braddock said. "I come from an agricultural background, which makes me passionate for this sector of people. I want to assist people with their legal needs on the farm and throughout the entire agriculture industry."
Braddock is a 2012 graduate  of Patoka High School. He is the son of Harry and Angela Braddock.

4-H club aided by  $2,500 donation
Fayette County farmer Becky Strauch has won a $2,500 award from the Monsanto Fund, and she has decided to donate it to the St. James Hornets 4-H club.
"My late son, Chad, was in 4-H," Strauch said. "I wanted to give these funds in his memory. I wasn't able to give a donation of this size when he was still with me. I think that 4-H is a wonderful organization for children to be involved in, and I know that they will do a lot of good with these funds."
The club, which received the donation at a recent ceremony at St. Elmo Grade School, will use it  to help pay members fees, go on outings and support a community service project.
The Monsanto Fund has contributed more than $3.1 million to rural communities this year.
