Family YMCA holds annual Grand Raffle

Under the theme of “March Madness,” the Family YMCA of Fayette County held its annual Grand Raffle event on March 24 at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.

Sandy Michel was the chair of the raffle events, Brad Dunn served as the emcee and  Brian Stout of Brian’s Auction Service was the auctioneer for the evening. Food was provided by Givens Meat Shop of Vandalia.
The live auction was the most successful in the past 10 years, according to John Ashdown, executive director of the YMCA.
“This year’s event featured some of the hottest bidding ever, with our top-selling item being a DeWALT Power tool kit that was donated by Orgill. Fulk Construction and Feller Oil Field Service decided to stage a bidding war on that item. Feller Oil Field Service won the item."
As the participants' tickets were drawn, various prizes were awarded along the way. Those included: first ticket ($150), Wally Bertram; 25th ticket ($25), Rick Stempinski; 50th ticket ($50), Real Living Vandalia Real Estate; 75th ticket ($75), Mark Langston; 100th ticket ($100), Kevin Jackson; 125th ticket ($125), Terri Braun; 150th ticket ($150), Meg and Todd Marquardt; and the 175th ticket ($175), Todd Stapleton.
The final 10 ticket holders were: Lynn Sefton, Tonya Langston, Doug Knebel, True Value Hardware, Mike and Tonya Bowles, Bryan Cain, Dave and Kim Clark, Ashley Feller, Joe Thierry, and David and Amy Meyer. They all opted to split the $10,000 grand prize.
In a basketball competition, Robert Garrison won the men's category with 117 points in one minute. Stacy West and Krystal West won the women's category with 70 points in one minute.
Garrison was the winner of a flat-screen television.

Brian Stout of Brian’s Auction Service assisted with the live auction at the annual YMCA Grand Raffle. Due to some competitive bidding, the auction raised more money for the YMCA programs than it had in any of the past 10 years.
