There's a lot going on in Vandalia this week. And with all the interesting things to do, we urge you to make plans to participate in some of them.
It all kicks off Thursday night at 7 p.m. with the Vandalia Lions Club Halloween Parade. Known as one of the premier parades in this part of the state, the event features dozens of floats, a number of high school bands and a wide variety of walking entries.
Then, on Saturday, the downtown merchants will host a trick-of-treat event from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. That event allows youngsters to go from store to store seeking Halloween treats. Participating stores will be marked by a ghost on their front door.
Other associated events include a story time at 10 a.m. Saturday at Evans Public Library and a costume contest at 12:30 p.m. at Family Video.
Wrapping up the Halloween-related events this weekend is Vandalia's trick-or-treat night, which will be held Saturday night from 6-8 p.m.
Motorists should exercise extra care as children take to the streets during that time.
