Number of races, sales tax hike on the ballot

By Rich Bauer, Managing Editor

With the general election ballot full of races, including some local contests, Fayette County voters have many reasons to go to the polls.
And in Vandalia, residents will be deciding on a one-half percent sales tax increase proposed by the city.
In asking residents to increase the sales tax, Vandalia officials say they would use half of the new revenue toward city infrastructure.
In addition to maintenance of the existing infrastructure, the money would go toward the construction of a new water treatment plant, estimated to cost more than $20 million.
