County fighting drugs, tough financial issues

As the Fayette County Sheriff's Office continues to fight the battle against drug use in the county, the Fayette County Board continues to battle with its finances.
Neither is an easy battle, and both require a lot of work.
Two front-page articles in this week's issue show that the sheriff's office is committed to finding drug users and sellers, and that it's having some success.
It's been an ongoing fight, as has been the county board's struggle to get finances in line, a fight that has not been made any easier because of the budget impasse in Springfield. For example, the county board learned on Tuesday that the county is suing the state in an attempt to get reimbursement it's owed for the salaries of three county officers.
The board will act on a new budget on Friday evening, after a public hearing on that document at 6:30 p.m.
Everyone seems to be making cuts to their operations, and the county is in the same position.
The battle on the county's finances will require the involvement of everyone, including the county board members and county office-holders, as the struggles won't be getting any easier.
Once the budget is approved this Friday, it will be up to many parties to stay within that budget, or even cut back on what is projected.
