Friday, November 30

? A fish fry to benefit the Vandalia Community High School post-prom will be held from 4-7 p.m. at Vandalia Junior High School. An all-you-can-eat buffet prepared by Country Rhodes includes fish, chicken strips, mini-shrimp, steak fries, potato salad, cole slaw, applesauce and baked beans. The cost is $11 for adults and carry-outs, and $6 for children ages 6 and under.
? The annual Christmas Gala sponsored by the Vandalia Historical Society is from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Statehouse. The event includes hors d'oeuvres, desserts and drinks, and live music. Attendees will receive this year's Statehouse Christmas ornament. Cocktail attire is encouraged. Tickets are $50 each; to see if tickets are still available, contact the Statehouse, 283-1161.
? Bingo is held at Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 home. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and bingo begins at 7 p.m.
? The village of Brownstown is hosting its annual Christmas on Main Street at 6 p.m. Brownstown Elementary School will be hanging ornaments, and Santa will be present to light the village Christmas tree. Local churches are encouraged to attend and help lead in the singing of Christmas carols. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served.
? A Nar-Anon meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.

Saturday, December 1

? Soroptimist International of Vandalia will hold Breakfast with Santa from 8-10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church, 727 W. Gallatin St. The cost is $6 per person, and it includes breakfast, a photo with Santa and a treat bag.
? The Mad Dogs Motorcycle Club's 35th annual Toys for Tots Christmas Party will be held at the clubhouse in Vera. Gates open at 6 p.m.; admission is $10 per person or a toy worth $10, with all proceeds going to Fayette County Caring & Sharing's Toys for Tots. The public is invited. Toy Party T-shirts will be available. Music by Thirst 'N' Howell is at 8 p.m.
? St. Elmo High School will present "It's a Wonderful Life – a Life Radio Play" at 7 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door.

Monday, December 3

? The Fayette County Health Department grief support group meets from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the FCHD office, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia.
? The Vandalia Women of the Moose meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? Fayette County Mothers of Preschoolers meets at 6:30 p.m. in the back room of the St. Elmo Public Library. Mothers of children ages newborn to kindergarten-age are invited. Snacks and child care is provided.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. at city hall.

Tuesday, December 4

? The Christian Ladies Breakfast Club meets at 9:30 a.m. at Denny's in Vandalia. Attendees may purchase breakfast on their own. For more information, contact Faye Watson at 267-8487.
? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? The Fayette County Hospital Auxiliary will hold its December brunch at 10:30 a.m. in the FCH conference room. All members are encouraged to attend.

Wednesday, December 5

? The Greater Fayette County Chamber of Commerce meets at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia.

Thursday, December 6

? Soroptimist International of Vandalia invites local women to its business meeting at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia. All guests may purchase lunch, if they wish. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP with Janice Hejl at janice.hejl@gmail.com or by calling 322-6538.

Saturday, December 8

? The annual Vandalia Statehouse Christmas Open House is from 5-7:30 p.m. The Vandalia Historical Society is providing cookies, cider and hot chocolate, and tours will be available. The first 100 families will receive this year's Christmas ornament. There is no admission charge, but attendees are asked to donate non-perishable or canned food items for the local food pantry.
