? A free seminar on synthetic drug awareness featuring Bruce Talbot will be held at First Baptist Church in Vandalia. Registration is at 8 a.m., and the seminar runs from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; to preregister, contact the Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus.

? TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m., and the meeting is at 7 p.m.
Friday, November 8

? "Letters Home: A Veterans Day Musical" will be presented by the Brownstown Junior-Senior High School band and choir at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. in the high school gym. No tickets are necessary, and donations will be accepted.
? Mid-America Preparatory School, located at Christ Tabernacle Church in Herrick, will hold a Veterans Day program at 10 a.m.
? SAFE (Sexual Assault and Family Emergencies) will hold its annual quarter auction at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the auction begins at 6:30 p.m. The event includes a 50/50 drawing, silent auction and a raffle for a laptop computer. Absentee pads may be purchased for $25 by calling 283-1414.
Saturday, November 9

? The American Red Cross will offer a free training session, "What it Takes to Set Up an Emergency Shelter," from 9 a.m.-noon at First Church of God, 3001 Thrill Hill Road, Vandalia. The training is open to all individuals who would be interested in volunteering at an emergency shelter locally or at another location.
Sunday, November 10

? Historical Vandalia Inc.'s second Season of Events program will be presented at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church in Vandalia. The executive director of the Illinois State Historical Society, William Furry, will the program, “Hysterical Historical Markers.” In advance, tickets can be purchased at the Fayette County Museum for $13 for adults and $6.50 for youth; at the door, they are $15 and $7.50.
Monday, November 11

VETERANS DAY
? A Veterans Day service will be held at 11 a.m. at Northside Christian Church on West Jackson Street, off of Sunset Drive. Randy Whitehead of Mulberry Grove Church of Christ will provide the music, and area veterans are encouraged to attend and offer testimony about their service. The service will be recorded, and DVD's will be available. For more information, call the church office, 283-1970.
• The St. Elmo Veterans will host the annual Veterans Day flag ceremony at the Veterans’ Memorial at 11 a.m. Flags will be retired and presented to the donors upon inspection. The general public is invited to attend. The services will be moved into the Phillips Building in the event of bad weather.
? The Vandalia Lions Club will meet at Days Inn. The executive board meets at 5:15 p.m., and the regular club meeting is at 6 p.m.

Tuesday, November 12
? The Rainbow Reflections grief support group will meet from 6-7 p.m. in Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. Fourth St., Vandalia. Those planning to attend the meeting or having questions are asked to call Mary Miller at 292-5366.
? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
? The Fayette County Board will meet at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse.
? The Evans Public Library District Board of Trustees meets at 7 p.m. at the library.
? TOPS IL 2020 will meet in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:30 p.m., with the meeting to follow.
Wednesday, November 13
? The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse.
Thursday, November 14
? The Vandalia Park District Board of Trustees will meet at 4 p.m. at Vandalia Airport.
? The St. Elmo-Brownstown High School cheerleaders will hold a chili supper and Spirit Night at St. Elmo High School. The chili supper is from 5-6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria; the cost is $5. Spirit Night begins at 7 p.m.; admission is $1 or a canned good, with canned goods going to Caring and Sharing.
? The monthly meeting of Crawford-Hale American Legion Post will be held at the Legion Home. Dinner is at 6 p.m., and the meeting is at 7 p.m.
