? St. James Lutheran Church, at 727 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia, is holding its annual chili supper before the Vandalia Lions Club's Halloween parade. The menu includes chili, hot dog or peanut butter sandwich, dessert and drink.
? The Vandalia Lions Club Halloween parade is at 7 p.m. on Gallatin Street.
? The Vandalia Swimming Pool haunted house, "Fear Farm," is open after the Halloween parade until 10:30 p.m. at the former Washington School on South Eighth St. in Vandalia. Admission is $6.

Saturday, November 2

? The Fayette County Art Connection is holding an open house and art sale from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Vandalia Tourism Information Center, 1408 N. Fifth St.
? The 38th annual Perry Biggs Memorial Fiddle Contest and Bluegrass Show will be held at the Patoka Civic Center, beginning at 5 p.m. with country singer Brenda Cook of Sullivan, Mo., followed by the Worthington Family bluegrass band. The fiddler contest begins at 6:30 p.m. Also performing are Lane Mayfield of Vandalia and national open fiddle champion George Portz and his "Friends of Bluegrass." A cajun set will be performed. Admission is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children, and full dinners, sandwiches and desserts will be served all evening.
? The Fayette County Extension Foundation is holding a soup supper at Brownstown Elementary School, with serving from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The menu includes vegetable beef or chicken noodle soup, hot dogs, homemade desserts and drinks. Free-will donations will be accepted.
Monday, November 4

? The Fayette County Health Department's grief support group meets from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the health department, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia.
? The Vandalia Women of the Moose meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
? The Vandalia City Council will go over the city's proposed new comprehensive plan at 5:30 p.m. at city hall.
? The Vandalia City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. at city hall.

Tuesday, November 5

? The Christian Ladies Breakfast Club meets at 9:30 a.m. at Chuck Wagon Restaurant. It includes devotionals, prayer and fellowship, and breakfast on their own for attendees. The public is invited. For more information, contact Faye Watson at 267-8487.
? The Vandalia Rotary Club meets at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

Thursday, November 7

? The Fayette County Board will hold a public hearing on the issue of animal control at 6 p.m. at the Vandalia Moose Lodge, 328 S. Seventh St., Vandalia.

Friday, November 8

? Vandalia Christian Academy will present a "Salute to America and Our Veterans" at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary at the school, at 201 S. Sixth St. All area veterans are invited.
Saturday, November 9

? The Ben Hur Literary Club will hold an elegant tea event from 2-4 p.m. at the American Legion Home in Ramsey. The purpose is to encourage more membership. Attendees can meet three area authors, refreshments will be served and used books will be given away. Meetings are held at 1:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month at varying locations. Full information will be available. The organization meets 10 times yearly, excluding July and August. Members are from three counties. Annual dues are $10. For more information, call 267-8487.
