Reprieve From Cooking, Dish Washing, Sweeping, Etc., Etc.
When Bill’s sister, Ava Taylor, called with an invitatiton to eat with her at Los Amigos, her treat, Bill got a reprieve from his household chores since the “broken ankle-can’t stand on it long without crutches-so-can’t stand-over-hot-stove-and-cook-or-wash-dishes” incident.
We hurriedly got ready in record time and beat her there, a rare happening. The meal was much enjoyed. We enjoyed our visit with her so much, and said we must do this again. Bill would especially like to repeat it while he is charged with doing the cooking and dish washing.
Hopefully, this week’s appointment and X-ray will find the ankle much better and healed enough to begin walking on it without repercussions.
With Bill’s valuable help, I’ve been able to keep up my writing and radio duties. DeDe Diveley also voluntarily pitched in and came to my rescue one bad-weather morning. Outside travel would have been more possible (I think) had it not been for the heavy rain and snow.
Things I really miss are getting out and petting my critters: Pricey, my big white Great Pyrnese, and her mother, Bertha; Smoky, the (adorable) little donkey and his stablemates; talking to the “girls” (hens) Blackie, Fuzzy, and Anita; Annie, the little goat; and even the “big girls,” the LongHorns, and wearing my blue jeans!
Things are getting better, though, and hopefully the Homestead will soon be back to normal.
Come to think of it though, Bill’s coffee-makin’ really tastes better than mine now, he is keeping us fed good, getting good at grocery shopping and, admittedly, spoiling me. (I might just limp around a little longer.)

…next Monday at the Golden Years Club building in Brownstown from 2-6 p.m. Rock ‘n roll T-shirts will be given to donors as long as the supply lasts.

Puleos’ and Debra Visit Dix
Ken and Wanda Puleo and Debra McDonald went to Dix on Wednesday to visit Wanda’s mother, Ethel Pittman, and brother, Phillip Bruce, and enjoyed a nice afternoon. They stopped by the home of daughter Connie Meskil and family in Sandoval for a brief visit on their way home.
Grandson Visits
Wanda’s grandson, Sean McDonald and wife Rosie of Ramsey, came to visit on New Year’s Day.
Catching Up With Lucille
Lucille Fisher’s family gathered at the Mike and Maria Klitzing, Kyle, Logan and Emma’s Altamont home for Christmas Eve and Christmas day.
Their daughter and family, Kelsey and Josh Kort and daughter Gwendolyn of Arnold, Mo., arrived Thursday evening and stayed until Monday after Christmas.
Daughter Haley Klitzing arrived home for Christmas Eve and Christmas day.
Shirley Klitzing came Christmas Eve and stayed over for Christmas day.
Also so present were Lucille, Helen Klitzing, Kathy Klitzing, Andy Klitzing and Bill Klitzing.
Lucille’s family again gathered for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day at the home of Helen Klitzing.
Present along with Lucille were Mike and Maria Klitzing, Logan and Emma, Bill Klitzing, Kathy Klitzing, Andy Klitzing, Shirley Klitzing, Peg Stuckemeyer and George Mette.
Sunday Dinner
Maria and Mike Klitzing, Kyle, Logan and Emma had Sunday dinner at their Altamont home for the following: Lucille Fisher, Helen Klitzing, Kathy Klitzing, Andy Klitzing, Bill Klitzing, George Mette and Peg Stuckemyer.
Christmas In Decatur
Bill and Panzi Blackwell drove to Decatur Christmas day to spend Christmas in the home of Don and Jill Jenkins. Also present were Jeremy Gatewood, Lindsay, Destiny, Gage and Emily.
Brownstown United
Methodist Church
The congregation of the Brownstown United Methodist Church met for morning worship following the Sunday school classes as pianist Bette Stolte played the prelude, “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” and Jarin Evans lit the altar candles.
Pastor Bigley greeted all present and reviewed the announcements, birthdays, and anniversaries. He asked for the prayer concerns and led in prayer.
Carol Severns served as liturgist and Jeff and Renna Kelly presented the tithes and offerings. Bigley delivered the sermon and served Communion, assisted by Jeffrey Kelly and Bradley Schwarms.
The pastor asked a prayer of blessing on an afghan, made by Marge Harre and given to Phyllis Smith. Bigley led in the prayer of dismissal.
Jenna Townsend and Renna Kelly led the children’s Sunday school fellowship and worship. Flo Allen led the adult class.

•Thursday at 10 a.m.-Bible study led by Jim Green at Brownstown United Methodist Church. This is the First Thursday Prayer and fasting encouraged by Bishop Palmer, with focus on Epiphany.
•Thursday at 2 p.m.-Brownstown UMW will gather at the church to plan their programs for 2011 and conduct any needed business.
•Embarrass River District Lay Speaking, Basic Course. Classes will be held at Effingham Centenary UMC on Sundays from 2-5 p.m. on Feb 6, 13, 20 and 27, and March 6 and 13.
Liberty Christian Church
The congregation of Liberty Christian Church was greeted by Howard and Carol Koester, and welcomed by Jim Dann. Teresa Mayes, Barb Morrison and Erin Schaub led in songs of praise, accompanied by Connie Largent-keyboard, Kim Miller-pianist, Dick Childress-guitar and Eddie Carson-drums.
Dave Morrison shared the prayer requests and led in prayer. Erin Schaub contributed special music. Jim Dann delivered the message.
Jim Dann led the Communion meditation and prayer. Brad Smith led the offering prayer. Paul Parkison gave the benediction.

•Something new for everyone – Starting Sunday at 8:30 a.m., members will have a time to catch up with each other in the fellowship hall with coffee, hot chocolate, and breakfast goodies. They will have Sunday school at 9 a.m.
•All ladies are invited to a baby shower for Keri and Benji Holding on Jan. 15 at 3 p.m., in the fellowship hall. RSVP to Buffy, 267-5338.
