Brownstown-Sefton News

From the Chicken Roost
Rhonda and Blackie (hens) have been off the roost for some early morning bugging. They are also enjoying the sunshine and can be seen lounging in the sunshine.

They are back to full production now (two eggs a day) and hurried to get friend and fan Shirley Klitzing a belated dozen for her belated birthday.
Shirley was heard saying that she used store-bought eggs for cooking and saved Rhonda and Blackie’s eggs for eating.
Callie, the kitty …
… is seemingly continuing to do well on her medication. She has her own room, complete with a recliner, but she still likes to come out and relax with the family (us humans, Bill and Panzi, and Josie, the doggie), in the evenings.
She seems to be watching television sometimes as she lies curled up at Bill’s feet.

Library News
The Brownstown Branch Library Friends met on May 14 to discuss the library open house and other matters.
The library has been closed for several weeks after a bad roof leak and resulting damage. A new roof has been put on the building and the shelving cleaned. Coming up in June will be the Summer Reading Challenge Program for children. It has a mustache theme – “I mustache you a question. Are you up to the challenge this summer?”
Children should register at the Brownstown Branch Library by this Friday. The challenge begins June 10. Call 829-5544 for more details.
The Friends of the Library are planning a bake sale during the city-wide garage sales, June 6-7. The sale will be set up along U.S. Route 40 at the south end of First Street.
The Friends are also doing some long-range planning for a return of Nadine and her Nashville friends during April 2015.
The open house was on Saturday. Several members of the library Friends served refreshments to those who attended.
Food pantry Items for May
… are one box of cornbread mix and one package of dry beans. Anything would be appreciated.
Coming & Going
Catching Up with the Puleos & Debbie
Wanda Puleo received a call the first of the week, informing her that her sister, Wilma Greene, of Alton, was hospitalized, undergoing heart tests.
The first decision by the doctor was that she needed two bypasses and two stents. Further testing indicated that only two stents were needed.
Further testing and consultation with another doctor brought them to the  “decision that it would be best not to do either bypasses or stents, but to send her home with medication alone and nitro spray, if needed.
Wanda said that Wilma will be 84 in two weeks and has been active with gardening, cooking, and housekeeping up to now.
She has found out the she needs to have frequent breaks and maybe not do as much as before.
Ken and Wanda and Debbie McDonald went to Sullivan on Saturday for a retirement party for Ken’s stepson, Steve Booker. There were about 24 close friends and family members present at the Booker home. They enjoyed visiting, snacks and watching the Preakness horse race.
Sunday, the Puleos and Debbie attended a graduation party for Rhonda McDonald. There were lots of family members and friends present to visit and congratulate Rhonda.
