Butterflies, Etc….
… seem to be the top topic of the week. At the Sefton meeting recently, it was announced that the butterfly will be the theme for the international level and on down through the ranks to our Fayette County Home and Community, Education for each unit to have an idea for a logo, and our Sefton unit assigned this to me.
Thus, I was working on an idea for the HCE butterfly logo when  I took a break and read an article entitled, “Metamorphis,” written by Carissa Sitki, and also learned that she and I have something in common – the love for animals –“creatures great and small.” She wondered about the length of life of a butterfly.
I am not a Butterfly expert, but I loved to watch them flit about when I was a kid, and I did notice that towards the end of summer, I would see the beautiful wings stilled and the butterfly just lying on the ground, lifeless.
There would be no sign of damage to their delicate, beautiful wings, so I just thought that they just “metamorphosised” again and flew on up into the clouds to butterfly heaven … with new and even more beautiful wings, leaving the earthly ones behind as they did their sheltering chrysalisis. Heaven is beautiful, so there must be butterflies there.
I believe the butterfly helps the flowers bloom so beautifully,  pollinating them and assuring them a continuity of life of their kind through generations of their beauty and then go on to heaven after enhancing our lives with their beauty, if only for a brief time.
I hope this obviously non-scientific theory helps anyone who has ever wondered about the life expectancy of a butterfly.
Meanwhile, I am the least likely “Seftonette” to drawing and coloring a suitable butterfly for the logo. I can see it in my imagination, but as I have a problem now reading my own handwriting, I am really “winging” it.
Stay tuned for further updates on this project, as I am calling on the Original Creator of the beautiful butterfly to guide my hands, according to the image He has put into my head.
I have the idea down pat – now I just have to get a pretty butterfly on the paper with it.

The September Sefton Meeting has been canceled due to the coronavirus.  
Special Request
On the last Sunday of each month, churches are asked to donate canned food to the food pantry, as it is badly needed.

First Christian Church of Brownstown …
… met for worship on Sunday, Sept. 6, with social distancing as much as each person desires.
The song service was led by Susan Smith, with Robin Lovett at the piano, Shannon Claycomb on the keyboard, and Kelsey Brands on guitar. Nathan Brands brought the message.
It will be decided this week when Sunday school and children’s programs will start again.
Brownstown United Methodist Church
The congregation gathered for Sunday morning services as pianist Bette Stolte played the prelude. Junior Williams and Carol Severns served as ushers. Pastor Don Thomas lighted the altar candles. Flo Allen was liturgist.
Pastor Thomas greeted all and recognized the birthdays and anniversaries. He shared the prayer list and requests, and led in prayer. Thomas delivered the morning sermon, following the Scripture lesson.
Holy Communion was officiated by Thomas, assisted by Marlys Thomas.
Allen led the adult class, and Pam Orr was in charge of the children’s worship.
