Eagles fall in first round
of NTC Tournament
St. Elmo was defeated by Cowden-Herrick for the second time this season on Tuesday in the first round of the National Trail Conference Tournament.
The Eagles lost, 56-46.
Junior Levi Maxey led in scoring with 16 points, and senior Connor Beasley added 14.
The No. 5 Eagles (10-9) will play No. 8 Neoga in the consolation bracket on Thursday at 6:15 p.m.

Mulberry Grove got a career-high 13 points from freshman Ty James, but fell to Collinsville, 72-50, on Monday at the Christ Our Rock Lutheran Tournament.
Sophomore Damian Latham and junior Devonta Williamson led the Aces (3-12) in scoring with 14 points.

The Ramsey High School girls basketball team lost to Greenville’s F/S team, 45-39, on Monday.
Shaunna Rainey led in scoring with 15 points, and Skye Kimberlin added 14. Both players had eight rebounds in the game.

Lady Cougars lose
conference game
Freshman Abby King led the team in scoring for the first time in her career, but the South Central girls basketball team lost a National Trail Conference game to St. Anthony, 63-7, on Monday.
King had three points, while Taylor Keen and Macie Cain each added two for the Lady Cougars (0-20, 0-5 NTC).

Jr. Lady Vandals
split with St. Elmo
The Vandalia eighth-grade volleyball team beat St. Elmo, 25-18, 25-12, last Friday for its third win of the season.
Molly Kern had 10 aces and six kills to lead Vandalia (3-1), and Emma Meyer added five aces, two kills and a block, and Macye Sarchet had three aces and a kill.
The seventh-graders lost, in two sets.

Tharp returns, but
Cougars fall to BCHS
Senior Fischer Tharp returned from a concussion and scored 15 points, but South Central fell to Beecher City, 52-37, in National Trail Conference action last Friday night.
The Cougars (4-13, 0-6 NTC) trailed by four at halftime, but surrenders 32 points in the second half, while scoring just 21.

Sefton has career-high,
but Bombers fall
Brownstown senior Matt Sefton scored a career-high 32 points last Thursday in an 85-63 National Trail Conference loss to Dieterich.
It was the second time this season that Sefton has scored at least 30 points in a game.
Junior Jacob Behrends added 21 points for the Bombers (8-9, 1-6 NTC), who were playing without senior Austin Hunter, sidelined due to a sprained ankle.
But Dieterich was with the Bombers the whole game, getting 32 points from Dalton Hinterscher and at least 17 points in each quarter.

Behrends has career-high
33 in EIC victory for Bombers
Brownstown junior Jacob Behrends scored a career-high 33 points, and the Bombers picked up an Egyptian-Illini Conference victory without one of its best players.
Senior Austin Hunter missed last Thursday’s game with a sprained ankle, but Behrends and senior Matt Sefton scored in his absence during the 72-64 win against Christ Our Rock Lutheran, the second win against the Stallions this season.
Behrends collected his points on 13 field goals, including four 3-pointers, and three free throws. Sefton scored 25 on the strength of four 3-pointers, and was 11-of-11 from the free-throw line.
The Bombers led 32-29 at halftime, and were ahead by just two going into the final period.
Brownstown (8-8, 2-1 EIC) scored 22 points in that quarter – half from Behrends – and held CORL to just 16 to pick up its second conference victory of the season.
The Bombers have scored at least 70 points in half of their games this season, going 7-1 in those contests.

Strong serves lead
Jr. Lady Vandals past MGJH

Both the Vandalia seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball teams used strong serving to defeat Mulberry Grove in the home-opener last Thursday.
The seventh-graders won, 25-15, 25-11, and recorded 22 aces as a team.
Ali Palmer led with seven, while Shelbi Stewart had six and Bailey Younkers had four for the Jr. Lady Vandals (3-4). Katie Tarkington led the attack with three kills.
The eighth-graders won, 25-16, 25-8.
Leaders for the Jr. Lady Vandals (2-1) were Molly Kern, with 13 points and seven aces; Courtney Sarchet, with 10 points and eight aces; and Macye Sarchet, with nine point, four aces and a kill.

Short-handed Lady Cougars
hang tough vs. Altamont
South Central only had seven players for last Thursday’s National Trail Conference game against Altamont, but those seven held tough in a 61-35 loss.
The Lady Cougars (0-19, 0-4 NTC) were down by just 11 early in the fourth quarter before tiring physically.
Senior Macie Cain had a career-high 29 points in the game.

Patoka falls just short
in regular season finale
The Patoka Junior High basketballl team came three points short of a victory last Thursday in its last game of the regular season.
Jered Cain had 35 points and 18 rebounds, but Patoka fell to Rome, 54-51.
Garrett Belcher added 11 points, and Patoka (19-4) returned to action on Wednesday as the top seed in the St. Theresa Regional.

Lady Bombers
snap losing streak
Brownstown snapped a five-game losing streak last Wednesday, defeating Ramsey, 52-31, at the Sandoval Tournament.
Molly Hill scored 16 points in the game for the Lady Bombers (7-11), and Bethany Oberlink added 10.
For Ramsey, senior Shaunna Rainey led with nine points.
