Friday, August 15

eoe’ The Tools for School distribution continues from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church at 1221 W. Fillmore St., Vandalia. Entry is through the north door of the church.

Saturday, August 16

eoe’ The Vandalia Community High School color guard is hosting a car wash from 9 a.m.-noon and 3-6 p.m. at Sunset 66, located at Sunset Drive and Veterans Avenue. Proceeds will go to pay for the color guard’s trip to Florida for a performance at the Outback Bowl.

eoe’ The Old Loogootee School Reunion will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Loogootee. Registration is at 11:30 a.m. and a potluck is at 12:30 p.m. Drinks will be furnished. Those planning to attend are asked to take two white elephant prizes for bingo, as well as any old photographs from school days.

Sunday, August 17

eoe’ A benefit for Carol Evans, who is battling cancer, will be held from 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Altamont VFW Home. The benefit will include a Dutch auction, silent auction, 50/50 drawing and cake walk.

Monday, August 18

eoe’ ‘Showcasing the Kaskaskia River,’ which will highlight the river from the Carlyle Lake dam to the Shelbyville Lake dam, will be held from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the American Legion Home in Vandalia. Sponsored by the Carlyle Lake Association and Kaskaskia Watershed Association, the event will include speakers in the morning, lunch at noon and tours of Buckstop Archery and the Vandalaia Statehouse in the afternoon.

eoe’ The Vandalia Economic Development Commission will meet at noon at Los Amigos Restaurant on Veterans Avenue.

eoe’ The Vandalia City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.

Tuesday, August 19

eoe’ The Vandalia Rotary Club will meet at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

eoe’ The annual meeting of the Mid-Kaskaskia River Basin Coalition will be held in the basement of the Fayette County Farm Bureau office on Sunset Drive in Vandalia. A potluck is at 6 p.m., followed by the annual meeting at 7 p.m. Meat and drinks will be furnished, and those planning to attend are asked to take a covered dish.

eoe’ The city of Vandalia’s Downtown Enhancement Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. at city hall to discuss the future of proposed infrastructure and streetscape improvements in the downtown business district.

eoe’ The Vandalia Board of Education will meet at 7 p.m. in the district’s administration center.

Wednesday, August 20

eoe’ TOPS IL 2020 will meet at 5:45 p.m. in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:45 p.m.

Thursday, August 21

eoe’ The Vandalia Main Street Program’s Concerts in the Park series in Main Street’s Lincoln Park on Gallatin Street continues with a performance by George Portz and His Friends of Bluegrass. The free concert runs from 7-8 p.m.
