Friday, May 2

eoe’ An open house at the Kaskaskia College Vandalia Center will be held from 1-6 p.m. The center is located at 2310 W. Fillmore St. A dedication ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m.

eoe’ A barbecue in support of Fayette County 4-H will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. in the Eagles parking lot, 118 N. Sixth St., Vandalia. Porkburgers and pork chops will be sold.

Saturday, May 3

eoe’ The annual Beecher City Spring Community Garage Sale will be held. Stands will be set up in pavilions at Community Park, and sales will be held throughout the community. The sponsor, Beecher City Tri-County Ruritan Club, will be cooking burgers and other items next to Beecher City Foodliner. Boy Scout Troop No. 176 will have a garage sale set up at the Tri-County Firehouse.

eoe’ The Vandalia Community High School prom will be held in the high school gym from 8-11 p.m., with coronation at 9 p.m.

Monday, May 5

eoe’ The Fayette Teen Issues Coalition will meet at noon at the Fayette County Health Department in Vandalia. Residents of Fayette County who are concerned with the at-risk behaviors of youth are invited to attend. For more information, contact FTIC facilitator Jessica Wright at 283-1044.

eoe’ An informational meeting for people interested in volunteering for the Summer Lunches for Kids program will be held from 4:30-5 p.m. at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. Men, women and high-school-age students are welcome. Volunteers are needed two days a week from June through August.

eoe’ Fayette County Relay for Life will hold a fundraiser at Los Amigos Restaurant on Veterans Avenue, beginning at 5 p.m. The public is invited to participate.

eoe’ The Vandalia City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at city hall.

Tuesday, May 6

eoe’ Evans Public Library will hold a lapsit story time for preschool children at 10 a.m. It will include stories, songs and finger plays by the library staff.

eoe’ The Vandalia Rotary Club will meet at noon at Ponderosa Steakhouse.

eoe’ The caregiver resource meeting for Fayette County will be held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 127 N. Fourth St. in Vandalia. The group is open to anyone needing information or emotional support as a caregiver. The caregiver adviser is available for individual consultations between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Evans Public Library in Vandalia; call Darcy Markwell at 1-888-560-8805, ext. 1062 to make an appointment.

eoe’ The Fayette County Asthma and KEYS Tobacco Coalition will meet from 6-7 p.m. in the classroom at the Fayette County Health Department, 509 W. Edwards St., Vandalia. For more information, contact Penny Lewis, asthma coordinator at the FCHD, 283-1044, ext. 112.

Wednesday, May 7

eoe’ Community Outreach and Road Angel are holding a food distribution outreach from 9 a.m.-noon at Road Angel, located at the Brownstown exit of Interstate t70. Those participating need to take a box. A free lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-noon.

eoe’ A Project Parenting playgroup for children up through 5 years old will be held from 10-11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, St. Elmo.

eoe’ The Vandalia Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse. A luncheon is followed by a business meeting and a program.

eoe’ The Fayette County Emergency Management Agency will meet at 7 p.m. in the EMA headquarters, located in the basement of the Fayette County Jail.

eoe’ Bible Blitz will be held from 7-8 p.m. at Parkview Free Methodist Church, which is located at 1507 W. Jefferson St. in Vandalia, for all children age 3 through sixth-grade age. Bible Blitz includes Bible study, music, crafts and games. The church also offers a youth group for junior high- and high school-aged students, as well as an adult Bible Study. All gatherings are open to the public.

eoe’ TOPS IL 2020 will meet at 5:45 p.m. in the Fayette County Hospital conference room. Weigh-in is from 5-5:45 p.m.
