Bowen wins lottery for top spot on ballot

By Rich Bauer, Managing Editor

Less than a week after the number of candidates for sheriff in Fayette County’s spring primary election dropped to two, it increased to four.

Republicans Brad Ledbetter, a retired Illinois State Police officer, and Brent Ellis, the current chief deputy in Fayette County, entered the sheriff primary on Monday, the last day to file petitions for the primary election.

Ledbetter and Ellis join two other Republicans interested in the sheriff’s post – Bruce Bowen and Chris Smith. All four candidates are residents of the Vandalia area.
