Vandalia Community High School Parade set for Oct. 5

The Homecoming Parade will be held at the Vandalia Community High School and will take place on October 5th at 1:30 pm.

SAFETY REGULATIONS:

Reckless or dangerous driving will not be tolerated.

No participant can possess or be under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or illegal substances. Smoking is not allowed at any time on school property or during the course of the parade. Bottled water and cans are permitted. No glass containers are allowed.

Absolutely no candy can be distributed during the parade.

Political flyers, brochures, handouts, or any other materials of a political nature are strictly prohibited and may not be distributed or promoted in any fashion by any participant. Exhibiting this type of material will lead to expulsion from the parade.

There must be at least one(1) adult (18 years or older) per five(5) children below the age of ten(10) on the float or walking at all times. The adult must be associated with the organization sponsoring the entry.

Motorcycles, quads, side-by-sides, and ATVs are not permitted in the parade. Exhibiting dangerous behavior and/or tricks will lead to expulsion from the parade.

No persons may ride on the top of, or sides of any vehicles, fire trucks, and/or farm equipment that is in the parade.

Children below the age of thirteen(13) that are riding in the back of pickup trucks must be seated at all times behind the rails or sides of the truck bed. Trucks must have closed tailgates. No parade participant may ride with feet hanging over the side of the vehicle.

It is strongly encouraged that each pulling vehicle has a spotter in the vehicle, other than the driver, viewing the back and communicating with the driver if/when issues arise.

GENERAL REGULATIONS:

Each applicant is responsible for the conduct of each and every one of its participants and agrees to notify each and every participant of these rules and regulations. VCHS has the right to deny participation of any entry or person failing to comply with these rules and regulations.

Unless there is an emergency, participants are not allowed to get on or off floats or vehicles while it is in motion or anywhere on the parade route.

Drivers of any vehicle must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle liability insurance as required by the State of Illinois. All floats in the parade must be pulled by a driver at least eighteen (18) years of age.

This is a controlled, forward-motion parade. If your entry experiences problems during the parade, please exit the parade route immediately and safely. We do not want to block or delay the procession for any reason.

To reduce gaps and provide for safety. Each vehicle should limit its speed to 5mph and stay within two car lengths of space of the preceding vehicle. Please take into consideration that the marching band may move at a slower pace due to heat and humidity and maintain a safe distance(approx. 20ft-30ft). At no time should a vehicle travel more than 5 mph.
