City holds swearing in ceremonies for new police officer, elected aldermen
A new police officer was sworn in during the Vandalia City Council meeting Monday night.
Dylan Brooks, a former officer with the St. Elmo Police Department, took the oath. The need for a full-time officer became vacant once Brian Roedl becomes the new Vandaliaa School Resource Officer in August. The position will be split with 75 percent being paid by Vandalia School District and 25 percent paid for by the city.
Also during the meeting, a couple of aldermen were sworn in. Bob Bowen, who represents Ward 3, was sworn in for his first term on the Vandalia City Council. Bowen was unopposed during his race, and he takes over for Joel Rebbe, who chose not to seek re-election. Alderman Ken Hubler was also sworn in for a new term, and he was also unopposed in the Ward 1 contest during the April 4 election.
Aldermen Russ Stunkel and Bret Brosman were absent from the meeting and will take their oath before the next meeting.
In other city council news, the council approved the appointment of Rob Thompson to the Police Pension Board.
