SEB wins in first round of regionals; Vandals, Cougars eliminated

St. Elmo/Brownstown cruised past Patoka/Odin on Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the Nokomis Regional.
With the win, the eighth-seeded Eagles advance to face the regional host, No. 4 Nokomis, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Vandalia saw its season come to an end with an overtime loss to SCC foe Litchfield on Saturday afternoon.

South Central also had its season end with a regional quarterfinal loss to Cisne.

In the regional quarterfinal at St. Elmo on Saturday evening, the Eagles led Patoka 14-3 after one quarter and were up 22-11 at halftime.

St. Elmo/Brownstown increased its lead with a 19-8 advantage in the third quarter and outscored the Warriors, 10-6, in the fourth quarter.

In that game, the Eagles’ Jarrett Pasley tied the school records for three-point baskets in both a season and career.

Playing from behind for almost of the contest with Litchfield, the Vandals had a second chance thanks to a basket by Reid Well with just one second left in overtime.

But, in overtime, No. 8-seeded Purple Panthers outscored Vandalia, by 10 points, to advance in postseason play with a 69-59 win.

Well led the No. 6-seeded Vandals with 22 points, and Tanner Robbins and Preston Nestrick were also in double figures with 10 points each.

Matthew Hagy and Wade Brannon rounded out the Vandals scoring with nine and eight points, respectively.
The Vandals ended the season at .500 with a 16-16 record.

Cooper Bowen’s 18-footer with 1.3 seconds left in the game lifted No. 7 Cisne over No. 6 South Central in the regional quarterfinal on the Cougars’ home court.

South Central was up 14-11 after one quarter and 34-25 at halftime. The Cougars were up 52-44, then Cisne outscored South Central 17-7 in the final stanza to pick up the win.
