Vandalia’s Anna Forbes connects on a free throw to reach the 1,000-point plateau for her career on Saturday.
Anna Forbes became the 15th member of the Lady Vandals 1,000-point club on Saturday.
Forbes, a senior, reached the 1,000-point plateau on the second of two free throws in the fourth quarter of Vandalia’s win over Greenville in the Vandalia Girls Basketball Mid-Winter Tournament on Saturday.
Vandals coach Michelle McNary, who is on the 1,000-point list, was pleased to see Forbes join the club.
“I knew going in (to game against Greenville) she was 12 points away,” McNary said.
“We played effingham and she was 36 down, and I thought, Oh, she may not be able to do it here (at home), because I didn’t know if Effingham would be able to shut her down.
“Then, she came out and had a great game against Effingham (24 points),” McNary said.
“It’s a great, great accomplishment, especially with the COVID year when she had limited game and she didn’t score a ton as a freshman,” McNary said.
“Anna is a hard worker,” McNary said.
“She has worked on her game to get better and better, and I think this year she has stepped up tremendously and helped us big time on the inside.”
Freshman – 47 points
Sophomore – 210 points
Junior – 377 points
Senior – 366 points currently.
