Indiana man killed in I-70 wreck near Vandalia

An Indiana man was killed in a semi-trailer vs. pickup accident on Interstate 70 near Vandalia on Tuesday afternoon.

Fayette County Coroner David Harris pronounced James E. Krieger, 52, of Batesville, IN, dead at the scene. According to Harris, Krieger had been driving a truck and was traveling eastbound near mile marker 60 when the pickup struck the rear of a tractor trailer.

The crash continues to be under investigation by the coroner’s office as well as the Illinois State Police. Eastbound traffic had been rerouted at the Mulberry Grove exit to US Route 50 while the investigation and cleanup concluded.

In a statement Wednesday, Harris asked for public cooperation when it comes to accident scenes and social media.
