Happy Thanksgiving! Local preschoolers offer advice on cooking tips, requests for the holiday

The Leader-Union spent a morning recently talking with local children at Bright Beginnings about the upcoming holiday to get their little perspective about cooking and spending time with loved ones.

Mason

 

LU: What do you like about Thanksgiving?

Mason: I like to play with my mom and dad outside.

LU: Do you know how to make a turkey?

Mason: Uh-huh. I make it in the oven.

LU: For how long?

Mason: Forty minutes.

LU: If you are cooking what are you making?

Mason: A chicken wrap.I love a chicken wrap but it is too spicy.

LU: What else do you want to say?

Mason: I have something to show you. I love everyone and I love you.

 

Daniel

LU: Do you like Thanksgiving?

Daniel: Yes. I get stuff

LU: What do you like?

Daniel: Cars and Disney cars.

LU: Do you like turkey?

Daniel: No! *then lists all the Cars characters*

LU: What else do you like?

Daniel: I like cookies and ice cream.

 

River

LU: Are you excited about Thanksgiving?

River: Yeah. I like to make cards for people.

LU: Do you know how to cook a turkey?

River: I don’t know. My dad and mom make it. I help them but I can’t use the microwave by myself.

LU: How do you help?

River: I help my mom cook green beans and macaroni. I also like to play with my mom and dad.

 

Jaida

LU: Do you know how to cook a turkey

Jaida: No.

LU: Who is cooking your turkey?

Jaida: My mommy

LU: What do you like?

Jaida: Playing with my Barbies.

LU: How many do you have?

Jaida: A bunch.

LU: What do you like to do for fun?

Jaida: Paint.

 

Adalyn

LU: Are you ready for Thanksgiving?

Adalyn: Yeah, I like I get some grapes out with my mom.

LU: Do you know how to cook a turkey?.

Adalyn: Somebody kills it and somebody then cooks it up.

LU: How long does it take to cook?

Adalyn: Like five minutes.

LU: What are some of your favorite foods?

Adalyn: I like strawberries on it. My favorite story is the bunnies. I have a bunny book. It’s not two. It’s just one. And it has a squeak bunny on it. It’s my favorite book.

LU: Anything else you want to say?

Adalyn: Alligators bite and snakes bite. And snakes and alligators bite.

 

Gracyn

LU: Do you like turkey?

Gracyn: Yeah.

LU: Do you know how to cook a turkey?

Gracyn: In a pan

LU: For how long?

Gracyn: Four minutes.

 

Lily

LU: Do you know how to cook a turkey?

Lily: I don’t know.

LU: Who usually cooks for you?

Lily: My mom.

LU: What do you like?

Lily: Chili

 

Owen

(gives an immediate “Thumbs up”)

LU: Do you eat turkey?

Owen: I don’t know if I like turkey.

LU: Do you know how to cook turkey?

Owen: NO. My mom and dad don’t let me cook. They will only let me do cookies.

LU: What kind do you like to make?

Owen: Pumpkin cookies

LU: What are your favorite foods?

Owen: Broccoli and bananas and apples

LU: What else do you want to say?

Owen: I like to play with my computer and stuff.

 

Chet

LU: What do you like?

Chet: Peanut butter and jelly, the red kind, and Candyland.

 

Attlee

LU: Do you know how to cook a turkey?

Attlee (nods): Yeah, in a pan.

LU: How long does it take to cook?

Attlee (silence)

LU: What are some of your favorite foods?

Attlee: Broccoli and carrot.

LU: How are you helping on Thanksgiving?

Attlee: Cooking the vegetables.
