VJHS wrestlers bring home medals

Four Vandalia Junior High School wrestlers came home with medals from the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation.
Also, Layla McFarland earned a medal at the Illinois Girls Folkstyle State Championships
• Dillon Hinton placed second in the Senior 126 pounds division.
• Dominic Swyers placed third in the Novice 216 pounds division.
• Max Philpot placed fifth in the Senior 84 pounds division.
• Eli Mabry placed seventh in the Senior 90 pounds division.
• McFarland placed fifth in the Elementary 4 division
Dillion Hinton – First round bye; won by major decision, 11-2, over John Mensendike of Stockton Renega; won a 5-2 decision over Dayne Serio of Fitz Wrestling; defeated Thomas McDermott, 2-0; lost to Jimmy Mastny of Albert Athletics by major decision, 12-1.
Dominic Swyers – First round bye; won by fall over Bane Wulf of Lions WC at :047; won a 7-0 decision over Nolan Lopez of Toss Em Up Wrestling; won by fall over Jonathon Caudle of O’Fallong Little Panthers WC at 2:05.
Max Philpot – First round bye; won by fall over Luke Pappalas of Mustang WC at 1:20; won by fall over Trenton Odachowski of Elk Grove Junior WC; lost to Nadeem Haleem of Lincoln Way WC, 10-8; won by fall over Kaleb Pratt of Arlington Cardinals WC at 2:12.
Eli Mabry – Defeated Patrick Nsengiuimva of Blackhawk WC; won by fall over Noland O’Grady of Team 1006 Wrestling at 1:21; lost by major decision to Chazz Robinson of Harvey Twisters, 17-4; won by injury default over Nicholas Marchese of Crystal Lake Wizards WC.
Layla McFarland – Lost to Marlee Krippendorf of Stockton Renegades Wrestling; bye; lost to Averie Madison of Edwardsville Wrestling Club; won by fall over Faith Garrett of Clinton Wrestling Club at 1:52.
