Bernice H. Walton, 93, of Vandalia, passed away Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, at Fayette County Hospital, LTC in Vandalia.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia, with Pastor Michael Mohr officiating. Burial will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Vandalia. She was born January 25, 1928, in Wilberton Twp., the daughter of William E. and Mary (Sachan) Meyer.  She married John Winston Walton on December 20, 1947, in Vandalia; he passed away June 12, 2002. She worked for Johnson, Stephen, Shinkle Shoe Factory and VCHS cafeteria cook both in Vandalia; homemaker; member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and former member of Vandalia American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by a son, Tom Walton and Terri, Houston, TX; daughter, Donna Johnson and Harold, Vandalia, Mary Ashbaker and Chris, Ocean Springs, MS, and Cheryl Hammond and Kent, Springfield; 10 grandchildren, Kent Hammond and Season, John Hammond and Colleen, Michelle Kelly and Marc, Kari Hagy and Jason, Lisa Merriman and Steve, David Johnson and Pam, Sara Gammill and Chris, Tom Ashbaker and Rachel, Nick Walton and Zach Walton; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brothers, Elmer, Willard and LeRoy Meyer.
