Junior Vandals attempt late comeback attempt against Greenville there Friday

The Vandalia Junior High Vandals, trailing 9-3 in the top of the sixth, made a valiant attempt at a comeback at Greenville on Friday, Aug. 20, but just couldn’t muster enough offense.
The Vandals fell behind early as Greenville took a two-run lead on an error in the second inning.
Despite the loss, Vandalia Jr High Vandals did collect six hits in the high-scoring affair. They added two more in the third and fourth innings, to take a 6-0 advantage.
The Vandals came back with one of their own in the fifth inning and added two in the sixth, to close the gap. Unfortunately, Greenville scored three in the bottom of the fifth to expand their lead.
The Vandals notched three runs in the seventh inning. The offensive firepower by Vandalia Jr High Vandals was led by Brenton McCarty, Andrew Casey, and Qwentyn Stombaugh, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Brock Willenborg started the game for the Vandals. The righthander surrendered four runs on two hits over two innings, striking out four. Kohnor Depew threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Vandalia tallied one home run on the day as Depew had a long ball in the fifth inning.
Depew went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Vandalia Jr High Vandals in hits.
