A Brownstown man is dead following a two-vehicle accident on US Route 40 between that city and St. Elmo on Saturday afternoon, June 19. Five total victims lost their lives in the collision.
According to the Illinois State Police District 12 report, Lloyd A. Rowe, 50, of Brownstown, was traveling west on Route 40, when he ran onto the right should, overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. The report continued that Rowe’s vehicle skidded into the path of Hailey E. Funneman, 22 of Effingham, who was traveling east. Both vehicles skidded into the southside ditch as a result of the collision, where they came to a stop.
Both drivers, as well as three passenger’s in the Funneman vehicle – Coleton Price, 25, of Shumway; James W. Bowlin, 43, of Effingham, and Jeana M. Kollman, 45, of Effingham – were all pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Fayette County Coroner David Harris, an autopsy had been planned for Monday on both of the drivers.
