The Vandalia Municipal Airport will see some improvements in the next month as work is to be done near the taxiway from the airport rotating beacon to the hangers.
The project is expected to cost $675,000, with 10 percent to be paid locally, with the project started in July, according to Mike Radliff. The new pavement will be airport grade asphalt. The grant money will be provided through the Rebuild Illinois funds. The airport road will also be redone, also with airport grade asphalt. The old hangers will be torn down sometime in September.
Also at the airport, four lights are out at the end of the runway, and those lights are considered obsolete, according to Park Supervisor Kent Torbeck. They will be replaced with up-to-date lighting as the older lights “go down.”
Torbeck also said that there have been Internet issues and since the service was changed to Pro-Wire, everything has been taken care of. Torbeck said that the district can upgrade service to 6G for just $15 more per month.
Kyle Hawkins reported one of the slides were damaged at Rogiers Park. If the damage continues, cameras will be put up to deter the damages. Steve Hawkins suggested since the district is doing a lot of business with Pro-Wire, that company should be contacted to see what can be arranged. He will also discussed work to be done at the swimming pool.
The board also discussed replacing the roof on the big pavilion at Rogiers Park. It was mentioned that the last time the roof was replaced about 17 years ago, and is starting to dry rot.
Pool manager Lisa Robbins reported that Sarah Hill of Beauty Mark donated new speakers for the pool.
Racheal Schaal, swim team coach, reported that as of now, the team has about 50 swimmers participating and that practices have been going well. The first meet is scheduled for July 7. There will be two home meets.
The board also decided to continue to meet at SAFE if the organization will continue to host them. There was possible talk of changing the November meeting as the regular meeting day falls on Veterans’ Day.
