When the Home & Community (HCE) Sefton Unit of the Fayette County HCE decided to choose a Sefton Unit “Mother of the Year,” it was a landslide vote for Laural Feezel.
Deciding to make the award and presentation a surprise, it was decided to make the presentation at the Emmanuel Methodist Church on Mother’s Day.
Laura Feezel moved to Brownstown as a young bride 65 years ago and has continued to be a blessing to the community throughout the years.
Laura and her husband, the late James “Bill” Feezel; raised their stepsons, Jimmy and Joe, in Brownstown.
Laura was, and still is, an asset to her neighbors, a volunteer and supporter for community projects. She was the pianist for Fairview Methodist Church until it closed, and is still pianist for Emmanuel Methodist Church.
She is an exceptionally caring and compassionate lady, caring for her family with dedication, with the wise guidance of a devoted conscientious, and loving, Christian mother.
To her surprise, after she was seated in her pew, Pastor Thomas asked her to come to the front. She was surprised when members of the Sefton Unit and chairman, Flo Allen presented her with a certificate proclaiming her as HCE Sefton Unit’s “Mother of the Year.”
She was further surprised when they were joined by Glen Gurtner, who assisted the Sefton HCE ladies by bringing in a beautiful hanging basket of flowers, also presented by the Sefton ladies.
It was a touching moment when Laura succumbed to tears of surprise and joy, at the honor, which she truly so richly deserved.
HCE Sefton Unit members present were: Connie Green, Carol Behrends, Phyllis Bruno, Chairman Flo Allen, and Panzi Blackwell.
