Valerie Dothager, of Vandalia, has been appointed Chief Deputy Clerk by County Clerk Jessica Barker.
Dothager, was appointed to the position in anticipation of the retirement of Iris Virden next year. As she will be assuming the tax rolls, and working with delinquent property taxes within the office..
Dothager, a native of Chicago, had a father in the military and moved around as a child. After she was born, the family moved to South Carolina where they stayed until she was 6, when they moved to Georgia, and thereafter to Mulberry Grove, in 1992. She was graduated from school year, and got married to her husband Toby, and in 2003, they moved to Louisiana for military reasons. They moved back to Vandalia in 2009, and then spent 2012-14 in Phoenix so that Toby could finish school.They kept their home here, and have lived here since.
Dothager has been with the county clerk’s office for about 11 months, first serving as the elections deputy, overseeing all things pertaining to elections. She then moved into payroll and HR with the office.
She and her husband have five children – Robert, Morgan, Taylor, Lauren and Wyatt.
