School boards hold the lion’s share of candidates on the ballot, as 11 districts, either fully or partially within the county. Three regional boards of education are also electing members, as well as two community college boards.
The election will be held on Tuesday, April 6, with the polls opening at 6 a.m. and closing at 7 p.m.
Mulberry Grove CUSD 1
For Mulberry Grove School District, there are four candidates looking to fill four seats on the school board.
Candidates here include Stephen Creek, Jeff Koontz, Quinton Lindahl, and Keith Steiner.
Cowden-Herrick CUSD 3
The Cowden-Herrick School Board is seeking to fill three seats during this election cycle, however four candidates are running for them. The candidates are Greg Jones, Consuela Lorton, Rita Prosser, and Zachary Sarver.
There is also a two-year unexpired term on the board, which has no candidate running. That seat will be filled following the seating of the new board.
Altamont CUSD 10
In Altamont, three seats are up in this election for school board, with only Dale Laue and Alan Shumaker running for those positions. The third seat will be filled after the winners are seated.
Beecher City CUSD 20
No one is seeking election to the three open seats on the Beecher City School Board. Those seats will be filled following the election.
Patoka CUSD 100
Although four candidates have filed to fill three seats on the Patoka School Board, three of those candidates are from the same township, however only two may be elected from Township 4N Range 1E. The two candidates with the highest vote totals out of the three, will be elected. Running in this township for school board are Michelle Landreth, Kurtis Belcher, and Mark C. Payne.
The fourth candidate, assuredly to be elected to the board is Russell Adams.
Nokomis CUSD 22
Nokomis school district stretches into Fayette County by one township – Hurricane – located in the Bingham area.
The four candidates for the four seats there are Denny Bauman, Steven Janssen, Carl Fesser, and Carl Kettelkamp.
Brownstown CUSD 201
For Brownstown School District, four candidates are seeking election to four seats which are up this cycle. All are eligible for election.
The candidates are Andy James Elam, Chad Towler, Laura Willms, and Robert J. Miller.
St. Elmo CUSD 202
Six candidates will be vying for four open seats on the St. Elmo School Board on Tuesday. Three of the six are from the same congressional township, however all are eligible for election.
Those seeking election for the four seats are Jared W. Morrison, Andra Carson, David R. Abendroth, Elise Asher, Chad Wilhour and Kevin R. Maxey.
Vandalia CUSD 203
For Vandalia there are three registered candidates for school board, and two declared write-in candidates jockeying for four seats.
On the ballot will be Kevin Satterthwaite, Joe Lawson , and John Campbell.
Running as write-in candidates for those same four seats are Therese Tate and Marcus Carroll.
Ramsey CUSD 204
For the Ramsey School board, a full slate is present on the ballot for four 4-year terms and one unexpired two-year seat.
For the unexpired seat is Nathan Hortenstine.
For the four regular terms are Shane Hadley, Keith Casey, Katie Hayes, and Julie Morell.
South Central UCSD 401
Taking a look at the South Central Board of Education, four candidates are running for four seats up this election cycle. The four seeking election for these seats are Dena Hoffman, Jeremy Chasteen, Michael Vandeveer, and Jason Markley.
Kaskaskia CCD 501
Kaskaskia College District Board has contested races for both the three regular six-year terms, as well as for the one, unexpired, two-year term.
For the full term, there are four candidates seeking the three seats. They are Louis B. Kalert, Laura Wedekemper, Jeffrey J. Brown, and Charles Lear.
For the two-year unexpired term, Patrick Ashby and Jim Beasley are competing in that race.
Lake Land CCD 517
Two candidates, Thomas Wright and Gary R. Cadwell, are seeking the two, six-year terms on the Lake Land College board of trustees.
Regional Board of Education
Regional Board 3
For Regional 3 Board of Education, covering the majority of Fayette County, as well as Bond, Christian, Effingham and Montgomery Counties, there are no candidates filed in either the two regular, six-year terms, or for the unexpired, four-year term.
Regional Board 11
For the two seats for Regional Board 11, two candidates seek the two seats available. They are James Young, from Douglas County, and Alan Zuber, from Edgar County.
Regional Board 13
There are two six-year terms available on the Regional 13 Board, and three candidates are vying for those positions. Available are Tina Winkeler, Clinton County; Dennis Niermann, Washington County, and Cathy Stanford, Jefferson County.
There is no candidate seeking the unexpired four-year term.
