Mary Evelyn Harpster, 89, of St. Peter, passed away at 10:18 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2021, at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.
A private family funeral service will be held. A public walk-through viewing will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in St. Peter. Pastor Ryan Meyer will be officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in St. Peter. Memorials: St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Lutheran Care Center or donor’s choice. Mary was born on May 16, 1931, in Vandalia, the daughter of Arthur “Pete” and Della (Welch) Donaldson. She married James Edward Harpster on Jan. 3, 1954, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Vandalia; he preceded her in death.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and St. Peter Legion Auxiliary, both in St. Peter. She loved reading, playing cards, traveling, shopping and spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Dane Harpster (wife Belinda) of St. Peter; grandson, Mitchell Harpster (wife Gretchen) of Jackson, Mo.; granddaughters, Amanda Eller (husband Ben) of Jackson, Mo., and Mahala Jacquin (husband Nathan) of St. Peter; great-grandchildren, Madison and Dru Eller of Jackson, Mo., Owen, Aaron, and Henry Harpster of Jackson, Mo., Harper Jacquin of St. Peter, and one on the way; brothers, Bob Donaldson of St. Elmo and Don “Duck” Donaldson (wife Betty) of Ramsey; sisters, Donna Price (husband Norris) of Terre Haute, Ind., and Carol Durbin of Stanbury Park, Utah.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James and Carl Donaldson; and sisters, Cora Bushert and Barb Cook.
