Marcella Peek, 103, of Fillmore, passed away on Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, in Hillsboro.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Miller Funeral Home in Fillmore, with the Revs. Michael Plummer and Houston Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery, Fillmore. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, at the funeral home. Due to COVID-19, those attending the services are asked to follow social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. She was born on Saturday, March 31, 1917, in Illinois, the daughter of Jason and Edythe M. Carter. She married Charles Wesley Peek on Saturday, March 30, 1940, in Springfield; Charles passed away on Aug. 19, 1993. She was a secretarial clerk at Horace Mann Insurance and also worked at Strong Cafeteria, both in Springfield. She was a member of the Fillmore Baptist Church in Fillmore.
Marcella was a loved by all who knew her. She loved being with her family, gardening, traveling, and she was a great cook.
Marcella was blessed with and cherished by her surviving son, Richard “Dick” Peek, Fillmore; daughter, Marcy Schneider, Jeffersonville, Ind.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Henry “Buster,” Chester, Ezra and Victor Carter; and sisters, Juanita Clowdus, Cleda Bessmer, Ruby Rickher, Allie Carter, Hylda Hill and Madge Porter.
