Vandals golfers compete at Gateway HS Championship

The Vandalia boys golf team wrapped up their season by participating in the Gateway Junior PGA Tour High School Championship.
High school boys and girls golfers from Illinois and Missouri participated in the championship, with the VCHS boys playing at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course in Alton on Saturday and Sunset Hills Country Club in Edwardsville on Sunday.
Vandalia’s No. 1 golfer, Chase Laack, posted the lowest score for the Vandals 82-77 – 159, 15 over par, tying for 11th place.
Conner McCall placed 30th with a 85-82 – 167.
Dylan Halford finished in 46th place with a 37-over-par 90-91 – 181.
Jonah Beesley tied for 53rd place at 45 over par – 96-93 – 189.
Riley Ruckman finished in 55th place at 48 over par – 98-94 – 192.
Braeden Duncan of Macomb won the boys championship with a 75 round on Saturday and a 74 on Sunday, with his 149 total edging out Avery Irwin of Belleville for the title.
