Vandals smoke SCC field

The Vandalia boys golf team won the South Central Conference Tournament in astounding fashion on Tuesday, smoking its closest competitor by 42 strokes.

Vandalia had a team score of 297 at Indian Springs Golf Course, with Chase Laack shooting a 37-34 – 71 to grab medalist and conference champion honors.
Teammates Connor McCall, with a 37-35 – 72, and Jacob Schaal, with a 38-35 – 73, finished second and third. Dylan Halford rounded out the team scoring with a 41-40 – 81.
Riley Ruckman shot a 43-41 – 84 to place 10th and also earn all-conference honors, and Jonah Beesley came close to conference honors with a 44-42 – 86.
Team scores: Vandalia 297; Hillsboro 339; Litchfield 346; Carlinville 354; Roxana 371; Staunton 373; Greenville 386; Pana 411; and Piasa Southwestern 454.
The top 10 golfers were: Chase Laack, Vandalia, 71; Connor McCall, Vandalia, 72; Jacob Schaal, 73; Tug Schwab, Litchfield, 78; Dom Haggard, Hillsboro, 80; Dylan Halford, Vandalia, 81; Henry Kufa, Carlinville, 81; Preston Lyerla, Hillsboro, 82; Christian Floyd, Roxana, 82; Riley Ruckman, Vandalia, 84.
The Vandals finish their regular on Thursday at home, with Pana the opponent as they honor seniors Riley Ruckman and Nick Rosborough.
