The Soroptimist Memorial Scholarship was started with contributions made to the Soroptimist of Vandalia in memory of Harriett Low and Hazel Jones.
These two women fully understood the need to help other women.
The contributions made will be used toward furthering the education of girls who want to improve their lives and the quality of the lives of their families.
Each year, the club makes a contribution to the scholarship fund and the award is given as interest income accumulates.
Those who would like to remember someone or some event by making a donation to the Memorial Scholarship Fund with a Special Memory Request are asked to provide their name and the person who is being honored/memorialized with their donation, and mail it to: Soroptimist International of Vandalia, Box 171, Vandalia, IL 62471.
Along with the above awards the Soroptimist recognize one of their own as “Soroptimist of the Year.”
That recipient will be disclosed at the banquet and presented with a traveling plaque.
The local Soroptimists now have 30 members and are always looking for women who are interested in making a difference in the lives of women and girls.
Women interested in joining this worldwide organization may call or text any of the current members.
