Junior High Softball

The Lady Vandals junior high softball team split a doubleheader with Effingham St. Anthony on Saturday.
The older Lady Vandals squad held off a late St. Anthony rally to pick up a 7-4 win in five innings, and the younger VJHS squad’s fifth inning rally came up a run short.
In the first game, Vandalia scored twice in the first inning, four times in the third and once in the fourth. St. Anthony scored all four of its runs in the fifth and final inning.
In the second game, both teams scored two runs in the first inning, and St. Anthony held a 4-3 edge in the second.
Vandalia scored two in the third, one in the fourth and two in the fifth. St. Anthony scored two in the third and fourth innings, and one in the fifth.
First Game

Pitching – McCall-4 innings, 8 hits, 10 runs, 7 earned runs, 10 strikeouts, 7 walks; Wehrle-1 inning, 0 hits, 0 runs, 3 strikeouts, walk.
The Lady Vandals were held to just one hit, a single by Madison Lupton, in a 12-0 loss at Pana on Tuesday.
Olive Whitehead was the only other baserunner for Vandalia, reaching on a walk.
Lauren Johnson took the loss, allowing 10 hits and 11 runs, seven earned, while walking three batters in two innings of work.
Lupton allowed one hit and one run, striking out one and walking two.

South Central improved to 5-0 with a 6-0 shutout of Altamont on Monday.
Ella Watwood held Altamont to just one hit, and Abi Shuler was 2-for-3.

Ella Watwood held St. Elmo/Brownstown to just two hits in South Central’s 13-0 win in junior high softball last Thursday.

Last Monday, the Lady Cougars scored five runs in the each of the last two innings to defeat Windsor/Stew-Stras, 12-10.
Ella Watwood and Kinlee Thompson held WSS to seven hits, and WSS took advantage of seven South Central errors.
Watwood and Amelia Montes each went three-for-four.
