South Central opened its season by edging Woodlawn, 5-4, in the first game of a double header and losing in a nitecap slugfest, 18-14.
In the first game, the Cougars scored four runs in the first inning and one in the second. Woodlawn scored once in the third inning and the sixth, and two runs in the seventh.
Chase Dodson got the win, holding Woodlawn to one run on two hits while striking out four and walking two in 2 2/3 innings
Aiden Dodson allowed one hit, gave up a run, struck out three and walked one in 2 1/3 innings, and Ethan Watwood allowed two hits and two runs in two innings of work.
Chase Thompson and Beau Jolliff each went 2 for 3, each with a double.

In the second game, Woodlawn led 4-0 after three innings and 5-0 in the fourth, with the Cougars countering with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
South Central outscored Woodlawn 7-2 over the next two innings, but Woodlawn exploded for 11 runs in the seventh while holding the Cougars to two runs.
Watwood took the loss, giving up four hits and nine runs, three earned, while striking out one and walking four in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Spencer Johannes gave up two hits and four runs, two earned, while striking out four and walking three in three innings as the starter.
Sebastian Cowger allowed five hits and three runs, one earned, striking out four and walking two in two innings, and Beau Joliff closed out the game, allowing two earned runs and walking one in a third of an inning.

South Central fell to Altamont, 9-6, on Tuesday at Altamont.
The Cougars led 2-1 after one inning and the score was knotted at three after two innings.
Altamont then scored twice in the third and fourth innings to go up 7-1, and South Central countered with two runs in the fifth.
Altamont sealed the win with two runs in the sixth.
Aiden Dodson took the loss, giving up four runs, three earned, in two innings of work, allowing three hits, walking three and striking out one.
Ethan Dunn, Beau Jolliff and Chase Dodson pitched in relief.

Woodlawn scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to slip by Brownstown-St. Elmo, 5-4, in the Bombers’ season opener.
Woodlawn led 1-0 after two innings and the Bombers knotted the score in the third. Woodlawn went back on top with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Brownstown-St. Elmo scored three runs in the sixth inning to lead 4-2 before surrendering three runs in the home seventh.
Dalton Myers took the loss for the Bombers.
